Its name reflects the small size of the berries but it is the biggest, most powerful & chewy wine produced in America. Don't confuse it with Syrah, a totally different grape. It's a cross between Syrah & the Peloursin grape from France, where it is called Durif.
Durif & Shiraz blends are mostly produced in Australia & California.
It is also a common blending grape for Zinfandel (to soften it), Syrah & even Cabernet Sauvignon to add color & structure.
It can age & improve for decades.
